COMPUTER CELL, LAHORE HIGH COURT

Introduction

Sixth April, 1991, was the remarkable day in the history of Lahore High Court, Lahore, when the then Hon'ble Chief Justice, Mr. Justice Mian Mahboob Ahmad, was pleased to inaugurate the establishment of Computer Cell in this Court. This was the first time, when computer technology was introduced in any judicial department, in Pakistan. Though the Computer Cell initially comprised of a single unit yet it provided basis for further development and expansion of computer technology at all levels in Courts.

Hon'ble Justice Malik Muhammad Qayyum (Rtd.on June, 2001) become the administration Judge of Computer Cell in 1991. Under useful guidance of his Lordship Computer Cell has shown marvelous success.

The chief aim of introducing computer technology, was to curtail the back-log of judicial cases, and to accelerate the process of dispensation of justice to the litigant public. In the beginning the solitary assignment entrusted to the computer cell was printing of Regular Cause List. During the year, 1993, initially installed computer system was replaced with a new one to discharge numerous assignments. Lahore High Court, Lahore, being the pioneer of equipping this Court with computer technology in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, has been utilizing the technology superbly, and has contributed greatly towards implimenting technology in Courts.
